Spec's Burgundy Tasting - Mostly 2003s (L'Alliance Francais, Houston Texas): 90 points with some upside; Right now this wine is very closed but had a nice nose of minerals leading to black cherry in the middle. Gorgeous mouthfeel - suede came to mind. Aging is a question mark on this one (at what point will the fruit/tannins be in balance) but the price is right to experiment at around $45. This producer makes very good wine at lower prices that are rarely touched in Burgundy. Tasty. (90 pts.)

89 with upside potential but too young to call at this point. Purchased at a restaurant, this bottle was very different than the bottle I previously tasted. Once we had the bottle to a proper serving temperature it came around. The first tastes were very fruit forward, almost like grape juice. After some air the minerals and spice were evident along with dark fruit. Well-priced burgundy but probably won't be a long term (10+ years) candidate. If I owned these I would open another in 2008. [~$80 at a restaurant; A nice match with French bistro food] (89 pts.)

2003 Domaine Jean Garaudet Pommard Les Noizons - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard (3/16/2008)

Tasted March 16, 2008. Opened and served immediately. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear and slightly vibrant hue throughout. Nose of "dishwater" up front that dissipated with air time to reveal lovely notes of cherries, wet stones and a hint of florals. Flavors of pungent spices like cardamom up front followed by cherries, light notes of currants and firm red berries. Good acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Nice little Pommard that shows really well with food or airtime. Drink or hold. (90 pts.)
