being the person of weak will that i am, i brought one of these along for a one on one dinner last nite with new winemaker dain. we met up at vie restaurant in the western suburbs, he brought along a barrel sample of his amber ridge 2004 RRV. he also brought along an APVIN 2003 PN (i'll have to recheck the bottle then edit the thread for which vineyard). we also bought a halfsie of fiddlestix (they were having an insane half price bottle nite). so why not.
dinner was wild salmon for dain and lamb chops for myself, with much sharing. this wine pairs wonderfully with the salmon, the fruit, minerality and acidity going wonderfully together. the two bottled CA PNs overpowered the salmon (not surprisingly) and the salmon muted dain's barrel offering. OTOH, the lamb chops married perfectly with all three CA PNs, but overwhelmed the delicate burgundy.
pale ruby colour, we decante, and this wine evolved through the nite, starting out restrained but in perfect harmony, then evolved to a bit more tannic grip about 20 minutes in, then evolved again into a wonderful florally bouquet. it never lost the minerality throughout the nite. i loved this wine and can only imagine what this will grow into. must keep hands off...........or buy more

i don't often put out ratings, but this was so solid - 93 points.
