I can't remember, but I think this as fairly inexpensive. Maybe $13?

Tastes out of Riedel Chardonnay stems.

Really light color. This wine has a super nose that has stayed with it for like 4 hours+. It's full of pear blossoms & pear mash along with some toast and chalk. All of this follows the wine into your mouth. Nicely balanced and put together. Decent finish. I liked it so much before dinner that I did not drink it with dinner but only before and after since I chose it not for the pairing, but rather wanting something light and cool.

Worth 88 TJ points, surprisingly so.

TJ, I haven't had an Antonin Rodet wine in years since I wasted a relatively small amount of money on a Batard-Montrachet with his name on it. I believe it was vintage 1978. His wines were always cheap and deservedly so. Unless this guy's done a 180, I'd stay away from anything with his name on it.

As I said over on the other board, I bought this wine as a case filler as essentially an impulse buy. I have not had many Chablis and I wanted to try some more to see what it's all about. This wine surprised me thankfully (most impulse purchases never work out).

Now, once I have had a few more Chablis, perhaps I might think otherwise, but for now, this is a prety good wine with a pretty good QPR.

I think someone else mentioned on the other board the following, too---

"...According to RP/PR Rodet has done that 180 with the winemaker Nadine Gublin and I've enjoyed the Chateau de Chamirey line from Mercurey for (relatively for the region) decent QPR in recent vintages. I have not had the higher end stuff. So possibly the worm has turned..."

TJ, I love Chablis, my most favorite being Clos des Hospices from Jean Moreau. It's from a small portion of the Les Clos Grand Cru. If you can find them, I'd recommend the Grand and Premier crus from Moreau, Raveneau, and Albert Pic, with Albert Pic's being the least expensive, but very hard to find. I don't remember ever seeing them in a store, but they're on a lot of restaurants' wine lists.

I also don't drink many Rodet wines, some from the Cote Chalonaise are OK (Rully is the best one). They are mostly plonk.

I would point out that they have a top notch line (Cave Something ) that Parker has been talking very highly of over the last few years. They might be worth a try.

Recent releases from Laroche have been good. I also had a Jean Marc Brocard that was very nice recently. These wines age very well, but I have had one or two that were around four years old that went through a very awkward stage. Anyone else notice that.

Board-o-- I'll make a note of those other names you mentioned. We'll see what my tastebuds say about them!

If you want to buy Chablis then the beginning of your search (and I would not quibble if someone said end of your search) starts with Raveneau, Dauvissat (Rene et Vincent not Jean), and Verget.

I'll second the R&V Dauvissat, but I don't consider Verget to be one of the better Chablis producers.

The Raveneau and Dauvissat are the gold standard. I have never had a Verget Chablis, but I have enjoyed many of there wines in the past and consider there wines to have good value.

You might want to try the following Chablis from Verget (even his regular villages Chablis receives a 89/90 from Parker). Many of them are available at Veritas. Scores are from Parker and I basically agree with him:

95 Valmur 100 points (magical Chablis)
96 Bougros 98 points
96 Fourchame 96 points
96 Valmur 96 points.

Verget's Chablis across the board regularly break the 90 point hurdle regardless of vintage.

I second JW1 on the Verget Chablis'. Not sure what the plural of Chablis is but anyway...

The Verget Bougros is consistently one of the best Chablis. I have several of the 96's and 98's and they are terrific.

One of the interesting things about Chablis is that that they are food wines. When I opened a '96 Bougros it was tight and flinty, probably a bit cold. Once it warmed and opened up we brought out the seafood and it became sublime.

I haven't had one in years. After a few disappointing Grand Crus, I stopped trying them.
