1983 Mongeard-Mugneret Clos de Vougeot (in magnum) -- light ruby color, but not as light as might be expected from Pinot Noir that's old enough to vote in any state; a great, sweet bottle-aged nose of cherry and berries; bright cherry and dark tea flavors, bolstered by significant acidity, with a significant leafy-herbal element, more underbrush than earth, a shade too much for my taste, but I know others who like this element more than I; medium-long finish, dominated by acid and tannin with echoes of fruit. Showing fairly well now, call it 90-1 pts., but possibly beginning to decline. I wish I'd had a chance to try this wine 5 years ago, though it's no slouch even now.
