| I was fortunate enough to pick up three bottles of this spectacular wine in 1995 I've not yet opened one until TODAY. I sat there and they were acalling me. I bought these for $500 NZD abottle and they were on special (some wine merchants just don't know what they have got!!) down from around $750.
Technically these wines should've reached there peak as Bernard Morey isn't known for longlived styles but the 1990 is a pearless example of his wines.
Bernard Morey is a top producer of Chassagne Montrachet and although mostly his wines are superior in the 7-10 yr bracket they are approachable and exquisite in their youth. I may hae left these too long but will find out shortly.
Served at bottle temp around 12 celsius. The wine is served in ISO and then Zerrutti Burgundy white Grand Cru glass (slightly larger bowl and with tulip lipping over a Reidel.).
Colour: Gold with a hint of drabness (bad sign) Nose: lush cheesy oak notes with some hints of onion (not bad onion, (think sweet onion characters) , meally truffled vanilla come through after a few moments in the glass. Palate: Although on the way down hill this wine's complexity and elegance was still obvious, the fruit although more subdued than I hoped displays a tenacity in its length and elegance of finish. The mouthfeel is a little flabby (I think this is a factor in it being over the hill) Overall: A lovely and wonderful wine if only I had drank earlier- however it still isn't gone and gets a 90 point on the Jeremy Scale. I will have to drink the rest over the next three to four weeks. Which I will enjoy. Probably should've have drunk this in 2000. | | | |
