Tasted at the Denver offline on 1/18/03.
13% alcohol, this was the third wine tasted out of nine. Opened in bottle for approximately 2-1/4 hours, decanted for an additional 1-1/2 hours at the event.
This was the darkest wine of the tasting. On the nose, this had a barnyard odor that blew off shortly after we began tasting it. However, it allowed most tasters to properly identify this as a burgundy. Others noted alcohol, smoke and spice on the nose.
On the palate, this medium bodied wine tasted of cherry and raspberry, with a faint tobacco notes. One taster said it tasted like fake cherry, more like a cough syrup than true cherry. Spicy notes pick up on a relatively long finish.
Group rating on this was sixth out of nine wines. Mrs. mbansek and I agreed on this one, both rating it fourth.
Initially, I had this one tied for third on my card with the wine tasted seventh. Since points were given for the top three ratings, I retasted both and dropped this wine to fourth. Had I reversed and rated this third instead, it would not have changed the overall group ratings.
