| | 2000 Yves Cuilleron Marsanne Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes -- from one of the young Turks of the Northern Rhone, a varietal that I've only had unblended a couple of times in the past (one was from Australia's Chateau Tahbilk) and haven't been impressed with. This one is no exception. Its pale to medium gold color is perhaps its most inviting characteristic; only very aggressive swirling releases faint hints of almond-like bouquet, with a hint of alcohol; in the mouth, it's quite heavy and dense, but with very little flavor, some nondescript floral elements--not really a fruit that I can distinguish--and hints of nail polish remover, followed by a medium-length finish that's a touch hot and features acetone/polish remover taste. It's very strange to drink a wine that has so much brutish weight in the mouth and such delicate, transparent flavors. App. 75 pts. Not my cup tea; maybe not anyone's. No fun to drink separately, no better with food. | | | |
