2003 Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (7/6/2006) WIML80,PURPLE82,WA89,NOWS Tasted June 6, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, slightly dusty looking throughout. Nose of black berries, raspberries, black cherries, a smidge of either leather/brett, hard to tell so small. Flavors of cherry tarts, raspberries and a metallic finish. Very tart acidity that eventually mellowed a little with time in glass but never went away (offputting) with firm tannins that did eventually soften some with time in glass. Drink over the next year. Not impressed with this bottle at all. Based on the local retail price of $13.89 I paid I'd say the value here is still unacceptable. Quite a different from the last bottle tasted. PURPLE’S comments: “Promising nose of rasberry, with hint of asparagus fern or celery leaves . Palate, at first velvety , but I got some asparagus and metal on the back. Light to medium body wine. Should have decanted 1 hour to blow off funk then you can get the rasberry but still somewhat herbal/vegetal. Overall, just an adequate wine. 82 pts.” (80 pts.)
