| 2001 E. Guigal Crozes-Hermitage - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage (6/29/2006) WIML85,PURPLE85,WA87,WS86
Tasted June 29, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. That was not the thing to do with this wine. Purple color in the glass with shades of plum, slightly opaque. Nose of brett, leather and black berry. Later some iodine. Flat fruit flavors of raspberry over an earthy frame with a little bitter finish. Tangy acidity with light tannins. This wine did settle in some with time in glass but it never came across as a “good” wine. Drink over the short term, be sure to decant 30 minutes to an hour to help round out the rough edges. Based on the local retail price of $21.99 I’d consider the value here to be barely acceptable but I still wouldn’t recommend it at this point (85 pts.) | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |
