| 1999 Chateau de Beaucastel. Chateauneuf du Pape AOC, Southern Rhone Valley, France. 14% alcohol. $60. Dark black cherry red color. Aromas of raspberry jam, hoisin sauce, and a touch (very slight) of varnish. Good fruit in the mouth. Moderate plus tannin with slightly elevated acidity. Drink 2009 to 2014. 90 points. | | |

Absolutely pleasurable CDP with distinct horsey aromas and flavors along with anise. Long, long finish. This wine was definitely in the drinking window although on the young end. There were some secondary aromas and flavors. This was one of the more pristine Beaucastel bottles that I've opened. Drinking well now but could hold indefinitely depending on your CDP preferences. Tasted May 28, 2007 at an offline. Opened, decanted for sediment and served immediately. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of potpourri, black berries, white pepper and saddle soap. Juicy flavors of red berries, red currants and red cherries. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink now with a little time in decanter or continue to hold. Score reflects potential. (90 pts.) | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| | Deep purple with lots of sediment. Decanted for about 30 minutes and enjoyed over 2-3 hours. Definitely not the same experience I had with this wine 2 years ago. Still a nice nose of spice, earth, and dark fruits, but there is a hint of vegital quality and a the fruits have a slightly stewed smell to them. On the palate seems about the same but with more muted stewed fruits (Is this cooked/corked?). Good feel and lingering spicy finish. Hopefully my 2 remaining bottles are better. 86 pts. | | | |

| | "Stewed" is a very bad descriptor. Rhone wines get cooked pretty frequently in my experience. It is sad that this happens and for the most part we might not know about it for years. | | | |

| | Winetex, I agree.....although I typically absolutely adore CdP, they are prone to very bad handling by negligent wholesalers........and in a vintage like 2003 the "stewed" characteristics can be quite overwhelming already due to the climate........ | | | |
