| 2003 Domaine Pierre Usseglio “Cuvée de Mon Aieul”. Châteauneuf du Pape AOC, Southern Rhône Valley, France. 15% alcohol. $95. 1,000 cases produced. Translucent medium red with some purple highlights. Very full but stinky nose of burnt rubber, flat plum, licorice, syrupy black raspberry, and butterscotch. The burnt rubber for the most part blows off with a little air leaving a much more attractive and boisterously fruity wine. Tannins are rustic but there is tons of fruit here to try and offset them. Excellent levels of acidity. Very fine length but unfortunately the wine turns raisiny on the finish. The Cuvée is 95% Grenache with 5% Syrah and Cinsault. It comes from 75-90 year old vines. It was raised in tank before being put into glass without filtration. Drink 2009 to 2015+. 92 points. | | | |
