| 2003 Domaine Roger Sabon “Cuvée Prestige”. Châteauneuf du Pape AOC, Southern Rhône Valley, France. 15% alcohol. $50. Medium purple red with thin lightly colored legs. Very aromatic already but with even more latent power lurking. Attractive scents of lavender, stone, minerals, plum, cherry, and cedar. Tannins are significant and a bit rough but acids are integrated and more than sufficient. Despite the tannin, there is enough concentration present to handle the wine’s firm structure. The wine does turn chalky at the end and that is a bit of a negative. Regardless, I love the quality and depth of the wine’s fruit. Because of this quality the wine drinks way too easy right now. Drink now (2009) to 2013+. 93+ points. | | | |
