| my first shot at a 2003 rhone from one of the better producers. if this is any indication, the very hot 2003 french summer is going to produce some freaky wines. i drank the wine over seven hours and paid $23.40
very dark opaque inky purple. the nose exploded out of the decanter, being predominately casis, mineral and smoke. almost smelled like a rolf binder aussie shiraz. big thick slow moving legs. full bodied jammy ripe teeth staining concentrated black fruit. mouth searing sweet tannins and ample acidity. a long finish. this baby never totally opened up, but has all the makings of an excellent wine. not like any crozes hermitage i have ever tasted. this baby needs time.

| Is this on the shelves already? Where at? What about the alcohol levels, did the alcohol stand out or detract in any way? TIA.

| mike-i saw it at a local place that does no internet or shipping business. gary's has it for $30 and gives a 20% discount on mixed cases. i assume this will be available in the $24-25 range. just appeared in jersey about 7-10 days ago.
alcohol was barely noticable. label says 14%, parker's review says 15%. either way, excellent balance.

| Thanks Jeff. I will look for it closer to home first to save on shipping, but I will keep Gary's in mind.

| Thanks for the info ojeffso!
I still haven't quite figured out how I am going to handle the high prices, but also apparent greatness of the top '03 Northern Rhones, but I will deffinitely keep my eye open for this (and other possible moderately priced gems).

| | Dark inky purple, almost opague with aromas of blackberry, melted asphalt, smoke and kirsch. Medium to full bodied with blackfruit, oakspice, kirsch, baked jammy raspberry. Huge fruit with acidity a little hidden, loads of tannin. Definitely a crowd splitter. This fell a little to close to Aussie shiraz for my palate, though really well made. 86pts. | | | |

| | interesting jason. i found on the nose this really resembled an aussie shiraz, but in the mouth, not at all. i have enough faith in graillot to believe this wine will evolve into an excellent drink down the road. | | | |

| | Bad wording on my part. I meant the wine as a whole fell a little to close to shiraz than I care for. I agree the nose was where it was definitely like an Aussie. | | | |

| | Deep purple, smoke, blueberry, blackfruits and earth. Medium plus body, great concentration and medium plus acidity. Boysenberry, blueberry, blackfruits and oakspice. Young with round corners, balanced and in need of a few years. 87pts. | | | |

| | My bottle last Saturday was probably closing down - tannins, high acidity, wood and just a little bit of fruit coming through. The potencial was there, but it was not open for business. | | | |
