| Another B-day what to drink....my last 82 Bordeaux I guess.
1982 Ducru Beaucaillou
Removed the cork, it was stained 3/4 the way up. The wine is light in color as it is poured into the decanter, more Pinot like in color. After 30 minutes in the decanter, the wine has darkened and is a deep ruby-garnet. Decant back into the bottle and pour a glass for a sample. The disk is dark ruby-garnet to the rim with no bricking. A very thin clear meniscus is evident. The nose is well developed with a kirsch perfume accented by leather and cedar. On the palate the wine is medium weight with low acidity. Flavors of cherry, kirsch, cedar and a hint of raspberry at mid palate. Finish still shows some fine tannins, I like this wine now, it is classic claret and went well with rack of lamb. It appears the wine can go longer, but the fruit was delicate and quite a change from all the fruit bombs from Oz and California I have been drinking. I think it is ready now (by my taste) and deserves a good food paring.

Thanks. Yup, I plead guilty to "Drabbing" a lot of my 82 Bordeaux (started in 1992). At least most were showing well and not closed so I can't complain. Now it's on to the 89, 90, 96 and way way out the 00. Then again I have some 99's that should be ready before the 96's.
Sad to see my last 82 go. Perhaps I can pick some more up at auction or at W. H. Frank in NY. Have you ever done business with them? They have a lot of older vintages available.

Look forward to those TNs. Perhaps I'll have some of the same wines to compare notes. I am really looking forward to the 96 LLC some day.

I would have guessed that. Do you know anything about W.H. Frank? Heard any positive or negative comments about them?

| We had this wine last night. It was dark purple with no hint of browning and a nose of dark fruit, berries, and a little cedar and leather. On the palate, the wine is silky smooth, beautifully balanced, and elegant- fully mature. Flavors of berries are just slightly marred by a hint of sharpness. I can't reconcile Parker's 94 with this wine. 91 | | | |

| I had a bottle of this last November, and it was simply awesome although with a shaky start. - 1982 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou [St. Julien, Bordeaux, France] 93 pts. (11/2/2003)
(DeLille Cellars 7th annual Paulee de Woodinville) This was my bottle. I elected to open on site and decant about 60 minutes before drinking. This started very mushroomy and funky with lots of tobacco and some barnyard. One or two folks thought maybe it was an off-bottle, but over the course of an additional two hours this blew off and the wine became sweeter and sweeter with a long, complex finish. As always seems to be the case, the wine was at its best near the final sips. Certainly there was nothing wrong with this wine, and it was certainly distinctive and enjoyable. | This thread prompted me to purchase 3 bottles of the '96, for consumption 10 to 15 years down the road. Has anyone tried the '96 (shame on you)?

| A friend of mine brought this for dinner on Saturday. Notes are consistent with Eric's note above. This wine started slowly, but after an hour the fruit really began to show. A very pretty wine with a wonderful nose. 93 pts. | | | |
