Nice surprise at a friends birthday. The bottle sat upright for about a month prior to decanting and it is still a bit cloudy with some very fine sediment permeating thoughout wine. However, overall, an amazingly small amount of sediment. Cork came out in two pieces--but still a quality extraction.

Wine exhiibits strong red fruit aromas and amber bricking upon pouring. Flavors of red cherries, beef/ blood, mineral and slight pepper spice. Tannins have almost completely faded, leading to a smooth, moderate finish. This wine is a bit over the hill but still showing some game.

I have little experience in rating bordeaux of this age but if I had to guess I would say this wine rates in the neighborhood of 85-87 points. Regardless, it was a very fun wine to drink.

I've had a lot of 1970 Bordeaux, probably more than any other vintage, and my experience with that year is that the wines were uniformly wonderful, though not the Margaux, but not terribly long-lived. The Latour may still be improving, but most of them are headed south.
