1989 Lafite-Rothschild
Creamy apricot, quintessential Lafitte. Prototypical Lafitte. However, not inspirational. This is an exceptional wine but not a contender with the 1986, and a mere of shadow of the 1989 Haut Brion. A very good, solid Lafitte but nothing inspirational. Robert Parker was generous in his characterization that this wine was closed with the tannin elevated. I would say the wine is open, the tannins have bloomed and are not capable of elevating
themselves byond the quitessentially Lafite dark fruit flavor. This is a wine that promises
more but does not deliver, but in the tradition of Lafite, it puts to shame most competitors.
Don't get me wrong - this is a brilliant wine, but is not representative of the perfection that Lafite can produce.

We have two more bottles of this that are planned to be opened this year... I'll do my best to see if any locals here want to help me review 'em... muhahahaha
