Checking in on a low-end 2000 Bordeaux. Good QPR on this one. The wine definitely put on weight since I tasted it on release at a 2000 Bordeaux tasting (note below). There's not much Cali wine that can match this quality at this price point.
- 2000 Château Lanessan - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc (5/27/2006)
Dark purple in color; Initially shy on the nose but improved with cassis, toasty oak and pencil lead aromas after decanting and over the course of the meal. In the middle there was more cassis and earthy flavors. It had a 30 second finish of spice and cassis and was barely into secondary flavors and aromas. In all a solid Bordeaux in a bit of a rustic style. It will probably improve over the next few years. Not as complex as the Bordeaux big names but superbly priced on release at ~$18. (89 pts.)
