| 94 WS; 91 RWP; 92 Winetex; $57
The second wine of Chateau Margaux. Decanted two hours; Initially tight out of the bottle as would be expected. After the long decant this wine exploded into a wild boysenberry nose with a shot of minerals. In the middle there were more berries, vanilla, cedar and a hint of violets. Then a very long 45 second+ finish with more of the same. It is heavy on the fruit which is also to be expected given its infancy.
At this price point and lower (Costco had it in the $40s) you cannot lose with this wine.It is very, very good.
Note on aging - this wine was not made for the very long haul. It has a good tannins and structure but fairly low acidity. WS says drink from 2010 and Parker over the next 10-15 years. Parker is right on with this. I would not wait to start on these and have this one scheduled to drink about every six months for the next few years. A few years will improve this wine but not more than 10.

| I tasted it when it was decanted and then at 30 min, 1, 1.5 and 2 hours. It started to really open up at 1 hour. At two it was flying.
Long answer but the minimum is probably an hour. Enjoy! I know you bought these at the indecently low Costco price. You won't be dissapointed.

| | We tasted this at a Bordeaux tasting last night. Without a decant and in a small glass it showed poorly. I decided to mention to the crowd that it was very good after a long decant. The leader of the tasting agreed and then went into a good discussion about decanting that was very interesting. | | | |

| I had this last night. Two hour decant, back into bottle, two more hours before served. Initially at decant it showed the tremendous perfumed nose of Margaux, just spectacular to smell. The palate was tremendously well balanced with wonderful mouthfeel...but there was no fruit, the mid-palate was just hollow and gave a sea-salt sensation, not quite similar to sweat, but close. Later at a gathering of friends, it had put on some weight, but was still short of where I expected this wine to go. There were several wine newbies there, a couple being French-Canadian that were very interested in trying the French wine. With a little hesitation, I poured for them, as young Bordeaux and newbie Cal Cab palates rarely mix well in my experience. They loved it, I don't think they noticed the fruit or lack thereof, but they loved the balance, mouthfeel, and finish and made comments specifically to those attributes. Several others noticed this and wanted to try and the wine ended up being the hit of the party, who'd have thunk it??? While I still wasn't entirely thrilled with the bottle, given it is Chateau Margaux and '00 vintage I suspect this will put on weight with time and be a very nice wine. I think I'd go more along with the Spectator rating than Parker on this one for potential, but it sure isn't there yet. | | | |

| I had this a couple nights ago. It was good.... but not great. In fact, the more I tasted it the less appealing I found it. It was drinking very nicely, but the next night it had diminished. I liked it, but at $60/bottle now, I'm not buying any more. If it were available at $40, I would purchase some. Its a good wine, with interesting complexity. | | | |

| 2000 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux (WIML92,WA90,WS94)
Tasted October 1, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Restaurant Series Bordeaux stem. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of cedar, mocha, crushed dark berries and sandlewood. Flavors of red cherry, raspberry and currants. Very tasty wine for the money. One of my favorite reds of the evening. Drink now with decanting or over the next 7-10 years. Recommended. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

- 2000 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (12/25/2006)
Inching towards a 93. On the nose there were spices and a coffee note. This bottle is further along than the previous one with a bit more of an herbal, green note in the middle but with a long, long finish. [Decanted 30 minutes and needed it] (92 pts.)

| 2000 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (8/13/2008) WIML91?
Tasted August 13, 2008 at an offline.
Opened and served immediately. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of potpourri, black licorice, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black berries, plums and cherries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full body. If drinking now plan on a decanting at least an hour or more or continue to hold.
