Just wanted to confirm for everyone that RMP knew what he was talking about in 1978 when he gave this wine a 65. Only now there is no longer an "artificial sugary ripeness of fruit" left and you're just left with a sad, sour, nasty wine.

But hey, I tried. Now I can use the slot in my cellar.

What Parker didn't know at the time was how highly he over-rated the 1971 vintage in Bordeaux. Initially he rated the vintage much higher than his subsequent reassessments. With the exception of the stunning Petrus, the wines were all short-lived. Predicting the future of young wines is much more difficult than people realize. That is my major object to the pontifications of drab on the WS site telling us how wonderful all these young wines are.

Some of the 1971's were more than drinkable in their youth, but by the mid 1980's even the traditionally stalwart were history. The Petrus, that we shared with the TJ's last August, was magnificent.
