Purple with a medium plus nose of graphite, earth, stones, cedar, cassis, smoke and oakspice. Medium plus-to-full body, medium plus-to-full intensity with medium acidity. Palate matches with hints of vanillin. Medium plus tannin, balanced, in need of 8-10 years. 94 pts.

one of my favorite 98's, which I consider as another under rated vintage.

I have to agree. I brought a couple of bottles home the last time I was in France and have enjoyed the two I've had so far.

Still? wow...I'm not much of a first growth kind of guy (outside of a few very special bottles or an occasional snag if the price seems favorable...) - but I managed to grab a bunch of these at Costco aways back when and have yet to crack one...I knew from the reviews (Parker et al) that this was a real keeper....but 8-10 more years ya thnk?

if you have a spare bottle - treat yourself now. I had it a year ago and it was delicious.

Good choice. 1998 Mouton is the wine which drinks better when drunk slow.

I can imagine it might be rather difficult to just quaff down...I'm expecting it to still be quite tannic, structured and powerful...(and the better wines are ussually best appreciated slow - to savor the experience....and at the very least to put off that "where did all that go to so quickly - damn - its all gone! moment...)

Hmm...I have a single 99....I think I'll wait awhile...but thanks (good to know). Like with Pavie - my Mouton (mini-vertica....94-99) ends prior to the 2000 vintage...wonder why that eh? (not disputing the quality of course...but can't have it all...) ...Easy...$$$$$ - what can I say - homie don't play dat....

I've been sitting on most of '98s. The few I've had have been very good. Can't wait to open the rest in next couple of years!
