| 1945 Chateau Figeac. St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France. $450. Shockingly dark colored with a deep red core and some browning at the rim. An extraordinarily complex bouquet of saddle leather, sandalwood, black truffle, lemon rind, dried out plum, cherry, mint, gunpowder, and raisins. Great acidity coupled with tannins that still have not relented despite their age. Incredible length. The antithesis of a fruit bomb. While this half bottle was seemingly ageless (it was retrieved from a cellar in Dublin, Ireland where the seller claimed it had lain untouched since it was released almost 60 years ago), I’d drink up if you are still lucky enough to have this in your cellar. 94 points. | | | |
