I had to try this wine primarily because I know how much anthony likes the winery, but also because of Parker's 91-93 rating and the fact that he said it is drinking great now. We had it with friends at dinner last night and drank it about three hours after splash decanting. I took no notes. My impressions:

The wine had a huge nose of spice and chocolate. On the palate its copious rich dark fruit flavors balanced the moderate tannins very well. I'm not so sure this wine will improve because the balance is there now. 94

We had this again Saturday night to confirm the previous tasting. This bottle was vurtually identical to the first. If you plan on drinking this great QPR soon, I'd splash decant and give it three hours.

Board-O,

With as well as this one is drinking now, do you think it will age well?

Tried this last night and more or less agree with Board_O's tasting notes. Drinking beautifully now, I'd give it somewhere in the 92-94 range. I do wonder how well it will age, based both on how well it's drinking right out of the chute but also because the bottle we drank last night seemed to be fading a bit 4-5 hours after opening (including decant time). Very nice wine though, and very good QPR.

I think it will age well, but that it won't be anything like a 20 year wine. It might close down a little, but I'd expect this to be fine after that. I hope to save a few bottles to have in another 7 years. To me, it's clearly improving since it needs a good three hours to open.

pizinah and Board-O,

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll probably add 3-4 of these along with another wine to fill out a case.

2003 Château Fombrauge - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (8/25/2008)
WIML90,PURPLE90

Tasted August 24, 2008.

Opened and decanted about 30 minutes to an hour before serving. Purple color in the glass. Nose of cocoa, cedar, espresso, potpourri and dark fruits. Flavors of black cherries., berries and white pepper. Medium to high acidity, firm tannins. medium to full body. I'd recommend an extended decant or continue to hold obviously. (90 pts.)

Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.
