I don't usually post tasting notes as I can't always pick up the nuances and characteristics that you all seem to include in your tasting notes but I'll do so for this bottle of wine.

A friend brought this wine to dinner last night and all of us around the table never had drunk a wine this old.

The cork unfortunately broke about half of the way down the neck of the bottle and couldn't entirely be taken out so the rest went into the wine. We didn't decant it...it went straight into our glasses.

The nose was musty, with a bit of a barnyard funk to it. The color was a bit on the opaque side, not a vibrant red.

As for the taste....we all picked up a "raisiny, port-like' characteristic to the wine. The fruit held up and another descriptor was that it was viscous, with a very long finish.

All in all, we were not disappointed with the wine based on its age. We all agreed that it was a mid-80 point wine that was on its last legs. A nice treat in any event.

A few years ago I attended a Cos vertical from 1953 to 1995 which included most major vintages. Your experience with a 1959 sounds like our bottle of wounded 1961, which is a shame.

The 1959 was a stunner and was one of my top 3 vintages.
