2003 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (11/26/2005)
Inky black-purple very dark and opaque. Nose of dusty herbs. Palate showed medium body, and marked dark chocolate which seemed roasted or smoky perhaps some licorice. Good finish with firm tannins. As you might expect, very plush for a Bordeaux. This will be an early drinker, but not this early. Give it two years before trying again. (Found a bottle of this @ Winehouse - San Francisco) (90 pts.)

This was definitely low-acid, but even so, the structure seemed fine. I tried a bunch of '03 Burgundies a few weeks ago, and they were lacking in acid and seemed flabby, convincing me to skip the vintage. The Lynch-Bage seems a better effort. The acid it does have balances well with the ripeness and the mild tannins.

I think buyers of 2003 French wines need to be cautious. Besides not liking the red Burgundies, I attended a tasting of 2003 Huet wines. They too lacked acid and are not worth the tariff. The Rhone wines I've tried, however, have been quite good.
