This is my first '00 Bordeaux - purchase for $30.

The wine exhibited dark ripe plums on the nose, with faint hints of toast and minerals. On the palate, a fruit-driven wine whose ripe tannins and strong anise notes showed through after 1 hour of aeration.

88pts

Jaimetown,

how much total time did you give it? i found that when i tried it it was a good 6-8 hrs before it opened up.

I admittedly didn't give it much time, but I did also try it again the next night - it was much more approachable then.

i bought a case of this on futures, more so on parker's notes than his 89-91 score. it just sounded excellent for the price ($23). i have not tasted any yet, but agree with anthony in general on 2000 bordeaux. if you are going to drink early, plenty of decanting time is needed. most are doing better on the second and third day.

This was a well-made wine, but it didn't really do anything for me. I usually like St. Emilions, maybe I needed a nice ribeye steak or something with it...

had this wine again over the weekend. this time i started decanting it at 2:pm with the first taste at 4:pm. very dark in color pushing into the purple rehlm.not giving off to much. i then went down to my neighbors for the annual pig roast (see notes under cali reds). there i began to drink some fruit forward cali wine. i made a point to walk back to y house about every hour to check the status. at about 7 pm it started to open up. with sweet dark fruit almost reminded slightly of the 99 pride i had earlier this year but much more reserved. very sweet tannins love it. i didn't get back to it until about 10 pm. by then it was really starting to sing. i just loved this wine. i might turn into a bdx guy after all. just to see what happen i left some in my glass until the next day and around 2 pm i tried it again, it was better.

well anthony, it's almost two years later and this wine is more approachable than we you first tasted it. i had it last night and after 45 minutes was drinking really well. i agree, reminded me a little of a restrained cross between a pride cabernet franc and merlot. very impressive for the price.

jeff,

unfortunately i do not have any more of these. i bought mine locally for what i found out later was way too much. i ended up returning them to the state store and put the credit towards 00 pichon baron and leoville poyferre, which were priced very fairly. this was after parker's final scores were released. i figured it was better to lose wine i overpaid by about $13 a bottle and replace it with can't miss bottles. i am glad to see that it is waking up out of its shell.

based on this what would your suggestion be on the regular figeac? parker said drink 2004 and i also read in his latest book that he feels figeac drinks better young. he seems to feel thay start to fall apart much earlier than they should. so i guess his though process would be to err on the side of drinking too young vs. too old.

ant-i have not had a figeac in years. if you have multiples and based on parker's notes, i would try one soon.
