| 2001 Cos d'Estournel (WIML93,WA93,WS94)
Tasted October 8, 2005 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in Riedel restaurant series stemware. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Very appealing nose of expresso, roasted meat and dark chocolate. My comment to PURPLE was “the nose alone is worth 90 pts!” to which she replied “Maybe 95 pts!”. The palate was tight as is to be expected with the very youthful Bordeaux but did give up some black cherries, earth, red licorice and plums. Excellent balance. I’d recommend holding for 3-5 years before trying again. Recommended. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| 2001 Cos d'Estournel Decanted, slight sediment build up. Forward nose of cassis, black currant, tobacco, leather...even some floral notes. Medium to full bodied. Just delicious. Blackberries & other black fruits up front, plus black pepper, spices and cedar. Chewy, big tannins could detract but with a wine so flavorful they actually enhance the wine and extend the finish. Could probably go for another 5+ years but was really enjoyable in the present. Vine 93.
Quick note, I do not have much Bordeaux experience and I may have been wowed by the "classic" characteristics this wine exhibited. I was slightly amazed at the notes of tobacco and spice. Now I have to try more Bordeaux! (Maybe a New Years resolution?)

Do it!!! You won't regret it. Or you'll REALLY regret it! The only thing that will regret it is my bank account!
And then I will have much regret when my wife finds out and relegates me to sleeping on the couch!

| Thanks for the notes - by the time Premier Cru delivers this for me, it might be ready to drink!
If you want tobacco and minerals, I would try the wines of Graves (Pessac-Leognan) - one of my favorite regions (St. Estephe is one too) in Bordeaux.
