Bordeaux Controllee $10
Medium deep red with a hint of purple, initially a reticent dried weed nose with some not quite ripe raspberry. Coffee and some charry oak are the earth component initially. First sip at +1 hour, shows a big, full body, but a lot of green and little fruit. Mid palate and finish are hollow.
At one full day the weediness has disappeared and wild berries and vanilla dominate a more forward nose. Black fruits have filled the palate and the wine shows excellent balance and elegance. The finish now lasts a good 20+ seconds. While the Bernadotte is certainly the superior all around wine the Marjosse, is more approachable now that it has opened up, and was enjoyable with a rib eye. With 6 days on the counter the wine has held its own, picking up a hint of oxidation, but still quite drinkable. 85-88 points.

You got the Marjosse and the Bernadotte, too? I paid $6.99 for the Marjosse and $11.99 for the Bernadotte through Beverages and More futures. I ordered the wine about 9-12 months AFTER they came out with the futures program when they were displaying the 2001 futures. The guy mentioned that they still had not sold out on the 2000 Bordeaux futures, so I bought 1 case of the Marjosse, 2 cases of the Bernadotte, 1 case of the Moulin St, George ($24.95) and 6 bottles of Pichon Lalande ($69.95). The rest of the good stuff was gone.

We drank this at the last BAWE dinner and i splash decanted it, but it had less than 1 hour of airtime by the time we drank most of it. I thought this $6.99 wine is better than most $20 CA cabs.

Only a few bottles of the Marjosse, but over a case of the Bernadotte.
