| 1999 Chateau Monbousquet
Tasted March 8, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in Riedel Syrah glasses. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Big fruity nose of currants and cherries with a splash of mocha. Pleasant feel on the palate. Gobs of currant, plums and black cherries on the palate. Definitely one of the better wines of the evening and a very good effort for the 1999 vintage. Needs decanting now but I’d recommend holding and re-tasting in about 5 years unless you just can’t keep your grubby hands off. Agreeable value. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

| I had a '99 a month or so ago at Terra in St. Helena, even decanted for an hour it was very tight. It was still quite enjoyable though, but there is a lot more to come. | | | |

| Had last night for the first time. Decanted for two hours and consumed over the next three. Extremely dark purple with tremendous glycerin on the glass. Initial nose was typical barnyard but was also showing some heat. After an hour it softened and the fruit began to emerge of dark cherry. There was a lot of structure evident but not at all harsh or woody. The wine became much more integrated than what you would expect of the vintage and it's youth. 92pts in my book. It would be higher but the heat from the alcohol held it back. | | | |

joe,
when you say agreeable value, would $50 be a good price?

| At this stage of the game that seems like afair price but having purchased the 2001 at COSTCO for as little as $34.00 I'd be more inclined to to spend my money there. Your call as it were. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| If I remember correctly I bought 4 bottles when VC had a promo on this wine. Anyway, is this ready to go? Am I rushing things if I opened 1 of the bottles as a test drive?
If best to hold, then I will hold with no problem...
BTW: Parker 94 points & @ the time of the VC promo, Oeno-File (Jones) also recommended it @ that $50.00 price.

| You certainly wouldn't be committing a crime to open one right now (contrary to what Board-O might say otherwise ). I think it is just now starting to entered its' drinking window. Another year or two certainly wouldn't hurt as well. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| I had this about 6 months ago at a restaurant in St. Helena and I thought it shut down. The '98 Right Bankers seem generally to be open for business to a degree, not sure the '99s are there.
Jeez, I should have looked up

| I am picking up several half bottles of this next week and will certainly pop one of those right away. The 6L Moon Bisquet I am getting next week as well will rest a few years though. | | | |

| Had this last night over the course of the Football game nice to see the Colts offense start to show up Looks like the defence finally got a test though. Oh the wine it must be shut down cause it did not show much at all it was a nice drink very smooth no heat at all but no complexity at all nothing like the 98' Powell opened up last week in Napa. | | | |

| Opened 11/5/05
Dark black/purple coloration. Medium full body. A pleasant wine showing a nice entry with black cherry, spicy raspberries, and oak. Pretty hollow on the midpalate with a good finish showing some glycerin and spice, but not an abundance of tannin. This wine should spread out with some more time in the cellar. A solid performer for the price range ($45). 91 points.
