1999 Les Forts de Latour

Deep purple, no sign of age here. Wonderful nose of leather, black olive, smoky meat, cassis and baking spice/cardamom? A slight green note appears later on, add coffee also. A little thin on the palate at first but picks up weight and shows sweet fruit after an hour in the glass. Still tannic, but not overly so, smooth, balanced. This is open for business now. I’m not sure how this will age, but it doesn’t have the stuffing in my opinion to improve for more than a couple of years. Great stuff tonight and has all the balance and complexity I love in Bordeaux, particularly Pauillac. The 99s are really nice to drink while we wait for some of the 86s, 89s, 90s and most of the 95s, 96s, 00s, 01s etc.
