I noticed the cork on my final bottle of this wine, which was also my final bottle of 1961 Bordeaux, was starting to feel soft, so I stood it up a few days ago. It was served with grilled marinated skirt steak.

The color was still a dark purple with no hint of browning. The nose of cedar, dark fruit, leather, and cooked meat exploded from the bottle. Previous bottles of this wine had always been closed, but this was open and beautiful. At first sip, I was struck by the warmth of the wine. It was complex with layers of flavors of baked fruit and berries. Simply wonderful and by far the best of the four bottles of this wine I've had. 97

Sounds great, BO.

Additionally, you sound very sentimental.

Yeah, I guess. I feel a certain sadness when I finish something I'm not likely to ever have again. I doubt I'll ever have a 1961 Bordeaux. When I feel this most is when I finish something I've truly loved and had a lot of, like the 1962 Gruaud-Larose and 1953 Lascombes.
