The fragrant nose of cedar, leather, pencil shavings, and baked fruit filled the area during decanting. There wasn't much sediment, but enough to require careful decanting. On the palate, the wine was still quite tannic with jammy fruit flavors. I think this needs another couple of years, but it's delicious now, though, at this point, not up to Parker's 96. 92-93

1989 Angelus

Decanted and consumed over 2.5 hours. Dark vibrant ruby red coloration with barely a hint of bricking. Wonderful aromatics displaying cassis, smokey tobacco, and black cherry. Tasting revealed much of the aromatics along with some chocolate and herb traits. A good finish of moderate length, but I kept longing for a little more complexity. The fruit is pure and well concentrated, but the tannins were much more abundant than I had expected........which will win? This wine should drink well for another 4-9 years. 93 points.
