$19. 75% merlot, 25% CS. Dark red/purple. Black, freshly plowed, wet earth, tobacco, smokey oak, black olive and black fruits on the nose. Dense, black, and primal on the tongue. Very well balanced with moderate tannin displayed. There is more tannin than you initially think though and rolling your tongue through a mouthfull of the wine will find it aplenty. The finish is medium plus. I had this with a big ole prime, dry aged filet and with two hours on it, though it was very closed, it was very delicious with the savory meat. This is the real-deal for me and everything and more I was hoping for with '00 Bordeaux in this price range. It should rock givin time, my guess is to try again in 2008. RP91, Me 92 points and I put over a case of it away already.

I had this again last night as buying another case made me feel like I needed to pop a loose one to verify my 2 initial impressions. When I dumped this into the decanter for a trip up the hill to a friends house it was just all blueberry, big-time blueberry, blueberries everywhere. Initially light on the palate and showing whopper tannins, at 3 hours in decanter it filled out immensely and was just a delight to drink, with gobs of blueberries, wet earth, some tobacco and tremendous balance. Very glad I bought this and thanks a bunch to RP for putting this guy on my radar. A great buy for around $20.

great notes, thanks for posting. I have some of this coming on futures, for which I paid $18.99/btl. Based on your notes I just got more from BevMo for $19.79/btl - in stock, with 10% discount

I tasted this wine back on February 21st since I had no experience with this Chateau. I'm guessing this is the same wine. Here are my notes:

2000 Chateau de Reignac
Bordeaux Superieur
Yves et Stephanie Vatelot

75% Merlot. 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. 13% alcohol. Aged 22 months in new oak. 148,617 bottles produced. Opened and decanted 2 ½ hours before first tasting in Spiegelau Vino Grande Bordeaux stems. Very dark but clear garnet to violet color. Aromas of cedar, mocha, cappuccino and smoked meat. Tastes of sweet cherry, strawberry and cherry sweet tarts. Needs more time in the bottle to integrate and soften. 89 points overall. Taste again between 2004 and 2009 to re-evaluate.

I did not go back and buy any additional bottles simply because the price I paid was too high at that time, coupled with the fact I had just purchased a lot of other wine (i.e. budget constraints).

Well, my local BevMo (Citrus Heights), which had cases of Reignac stacked waist high for 3 months with a RP 90-91 rating plastered on them until just last week, doesn't have a single bottle left. For Sacto people the Arden store two days ago had 4 cases, their store is consistantly cooler too.

Wow, this is timely! I just received an email today from one of my retailers, indicating they have 3 pallets/168 cases of this coming in in June or July, and they are offering for $133/case! I was leaning towards ordering a case just based on the Parker review...but now with the VinoCellar confirmation, I'm definitely going to get a case. I gotta get in on at least a LITTLE BIT of 2000 Bordeaux after all...Thanks for the great notes Stealthman!

Careful here, there are two different bottlings, quite a bit of discussion went on over on the Squires site about this. There is a 'right' one and a now so right one. Please read these threads before buying....
Parker Site
More EBob
Even More Reignac Confusion
Bottom line, tall bottle, beige, non traditional French label, just says Reignac on the front. I should link a scan, but it may take a couple days...

the stealthman is correct. be very careful. the $11 wine is not the real thing. many retailers are taking advantage of the confusion.

That is all true. My retailer was definitely not taking advantage of us here, b/c he sent out emails today explaining his confusion, and personally spoke to me when I called to place my order. The wine he has is the de Reignac. He said it is definitely not the 92 pt. Parker wine. It may be a second wine of the same vintner, but he is not sure. He said the wine is still quite good, especially for the price--an 88 in his opinion. I decided to hold off, as he is trying to get his hands on some of the real Reignac.
