N.V. Ste Genevieve Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, Texas (6/3/2006)WIML84,PURPLE84,NOWA,NOWS
Tasted June 3, 2006 at home. Needed some wine to cook with so decided to taste it as well. 12% alcohol. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Ruby color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of fairly light notes of red cherries, pepper, smoke and maybe some black cherries as well. Flavors of red cherries, red licorice and maybe a smidge of Bing cherries. I’d be interested in knowing if there is any residual sugar in this wine because I get just a touch of sweetness as well. Fairly rounded tannins, perhaps a little drying, with somewhat fresh acidity. Overall I’d say the balance is just a little bit disjointed but this wine performs surprising well. I know this may come as a shock to many but based on the local retail price I paid of $5.99 a bottle I’d say the value here is recommended. You could do a lot worse than opening this for Aunt Nelly for Sunday lunch. Drink now is obvious.
