This must be the vilest wine I have put in my mouth in recent memory. The aromas immediately remind me of sewer water, the wine is dirty, thin, lifeless, and green. Horrid, awful stuff.

mmmm. Tasty.

I prefer the term 'swamp gas' over sewer water. It makes it sound more exotic.

I hope you weren't harmed to much by your experience.

Eric, we visited Chateau Biltmore. There was not one wine I would want for free. Along with Jefferson Vineyards in Virginia, I think they're the worst wineries I've ever visited.

What the hell are you people thinking? This is the nectar of the gods!!

Biltmore is truly awful. Why you would ever pour that into your mouth is beyond me.

Most wine from NC (and VA, and PA, etc) is bad BUT I did try Shelton Vineyards (merlot and a blend, I think) and it was halfway decent (low 80's pointwise).

But the Biltmore? Sheesh.

Somehow I get the feeling that the Vanderbilts didn't drink a lot of NC wine, even at their Biltmore estate.

In the name of science!

Actually, this was one of the wines my Mom picked up on her travels, and was one (of many) we opened this weekend as we toasted her memory.

It's the reason I visit the wineries of the eastern US and Canada.

Many of these wineries do it for the tourism. There is a winery in GA (forget the name.>>>Chateau something) and they do a booming business in some of the most awful wine imaginable. Folks buy a bottle and take to their wine drinking friends, I guess it beats a T-shirt.

Maybe not.

The Biltmore wines were awful.

I have to say that the Texas wines are also a bit of a novelty, and certainly no contenders for the west coast competitors. Some are drinkable. Many are just downright pathetic.

The best example of the worst wine was in MO. They made more to-do about serving than they do at Far Niente and the wine about choked me on the spot. Pure crap. Nope, do not recall the name. We fled the place as quickly as we could.

Don't you just love it when the kid pouring the wines tells you how great they are? My wife and I almost burst into laughter at one Finger Lakes winery when that happened. I felt like saying: "Apricots? If there's apricots in here who who urinated on them?"

Well, what do you expect them to say: "This stuff can't compare to California, but they're paying me 8 bucks an hour to pour this swill, so please try not to spit it on the floor."?

Eric,

You must have gotten a bad bottle, as this winery usually is good for at least a 55-point wine. Thus, I believe you've missed the mark by at least three points (although you didn't give an actual point score).

I hereby call upon you to re-evaluate this wine and give it a proper chance to "strut its stuff". I'll be happy to source said retest bottles next time I'm out your way, to ensure proper provenance and vintage freshness.

Cheers, y'all

One of our good clients gave us a mixed case of this swill. From prior experience with another bottle, I knew how bad it was. Re-gifted the 12 bottles to others who thought the estate was a nice place. Surprising, they still speak to us.

At least the bottle looked nice.

Their ESTATE (wines made from Carolina grapes) as stated above are no good, but their PN which has the American designation is primarily made from Oregon grapes I thought was OK for an inexpensive pinot noir.
