Good color, saturated dark purple. Nose is good, showing some cassis, blacberries, and sweet oak. On the palate the wine shows somewhat astringent tannins, and a slightly bitter edge, but overall it is varitally correct and without flaws. Better than I expected, and an 82 point wine.

ha! Interesting. Crack into it one night and post what you think - it's really not bad. This was one of the wines from my Mom's house, she picked it up while travelling back there.

That's about the highest rated red I ever tasted from Virginia. They do a little better with their whites. I thought Oakencroft and White Hall made some decent whites in the 82-85 point range. The best wine I ever had from Virginia was Oakencroft's regular Chardonnay bottling, not the over-oaked Reserve.

I think Virginia has come a long way, just based on everything I have read over the last couple of years. There seem to be quite aa few more producers now and some are trying to do the best possible job they can, producing, I think consistently, low 80-point wines. Give them another ten years and they might really make some interesting stuff.

Ever try Florida wines. They don't hit the 70's mark. Another 50 years they might get into the 80's or mercifully go out of business
