We visited this winery 12 days ago based on recommendations from a couple of forum members (Edward, Whiner).

2004 Johannisberg Riesling, 11.5% alcohol, $12- Peach nose, apricot and citrus flavor, lightly sweet, 80
2002 Proprietor's Reserve Chardonnay, 13% alcohol, $19- Nose of pears and tropical fruit, austere pear flavor, 79
2002 Pinot Noir, 13% alcohol, $20- No nose, harsh, 72
2002 Merlot, 13% alcohol, $19- Dark fruit nose, Robitussin, 68 I really didn't know how to score the Merlot. When my wife and I tasted it, we looked at each other and almost burst out laughing. I didn't want to embarass the people in the tasting room, but I couldn't believe how bad this wine was. It wasn't madeirized and didn't appear damaged to me, just bad.
2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% alcohol, $20- Light sharp nose, mediocre at best, 71
2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Owner's Reserve, 13% alcohol, $50- Yes, fifty dollars! Dark fruit nose, sharp berry flavors, 74
I would say we found this winery disappointing, but this is actually what we were expecting from a majority of the area's wineries. |
