Produced for the Doon wine club with a sticker price of $12, I don’t know the blend but if I had to guess I would say mostly Grenache with probably a splash or three of Mouvedre. Interestingly, I can find no info on this on the Doon site, it’s got interesting packaging though, with artwork from Gary Taxali. (This is NOT the Vin Gris de Cigar).

14.4% Alcohol, this is no wimpy rose. Very dark clear pink on color, boardering on the color of fresh raspberries. Nose is bright and fresh, singing loudly of sweet strawberries, along with almond and high toned floral components. The alcohol shows itself a bit more than it should on the palate, but this is still a pleasantly rich, yet refreshing dry rose that turns just a touch bitter on the finish. A respectable 83 points, drink now.

I just signed up for the Doon Club. How has your experience been with them?

They ship to Texas. Shhhh.

Well, funny you should ask, as this wine was in my last shipment before I dropped them

Randall Grahm is a great marketer, and I truly admire his willingness to experiment and his convictions with regard to underdog grapes and his screwcap initiative. However, more and more lately the wines have been mediocre at best, and overpriced for the quality. I could no longer justify paying $20.00 for a special DEWN-only release that wasn't as good as a bottle of $4.99 Borsao. A few have been truly awful (Toscano Ciliegiolo comes to mind, think gobs of tar and no fruit), while some have been very interesting and quite good, but again - the value was missing.

Hope your experience is better, please post notes.

Yes, my timing has always been.....off.

I'll give them a go for a bit. I have always enjoyed the wines I can get locally and they are usually very competively priced.

Oh well, timing is everything. Wanna buy some dot.coms?
