| Okanagan Valley, British Columbia 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Served blind. Aromas of butterscotch, vanilla, cassis, black licorice. Butterscotch dissipates then returns with time in the glass. Full-bodied with figs, cassis, vanilla, tobacco, and just a touch of limoncello on the back. Dry, peppery finish with vanilla notes, ~30s. Second best Canadian wine I've had. 87 points (05/08/2004).

| So which was the best?
As an apologist for the BC wine industry I had great hope the first time I tried the Pinnacle but unfortunately I didn't really like it. Have tried it twice now and both times I found it too lean and green for the price. From my perspective, all the reds by Burrowing Owl, Poplar Grove and Black Hills are better wines. And the Quail's gate Pinot Noir and Foch.

| | The best I had was the 1998 Pillitteri Cabernet Franc Family Reserve. I wouldn't pay $50 for the Pinnacle, but I wouldn't turn it down if someone was pouring it my glass. If I recall correctly, this had several hours of air before being rebottled and bagged. | | | |

| And some Blue Mountain Pinot Noirs, but not consistently.
And some Nichols Syrah, but only in occasional vintages.
I dare say the list must be getting complete by now.

| | Well, I've had good luck with the three bottles of Sandhill Small Lot wines I have tried. And then there are the whites. | | | |

| | My neighbour had a bottle of 2002 Blue Mountain Pinot open a couple nights ago and it was mediocre. Maybe it just needed more time. *shrug* | | | |

Different tastes...
As Seaq says, they can be inconsistent, even bottle to bottle. We had an older Quail's Gate Pinot Noir last night which I didn't expect much from but it was excellent. Conversely, we also tried a young Cedar Creek Platinum Pinot - which I expected a lot from - it was mediocre. (But in its defence, I think it needed a bit of air time.)
PS How did your neighbour get an 02? They were only released last week.

I'm think'n the '02 Blue Mtn. PN futronic speaks of was the regular bottling, which is released long before the Stripe Label (reserve).

| | That would make sense. I've never tried a regular bottling of Pinot from them. You? | | | |

| | Yes, it was the regular bottle of Pinot. She had it shipped from BC. | | | |
