Anden Vineyard is part of what used to be the Seven Springs Vineyard, now divided in two. Patricia Green used to make wine for Torii Mor from the Seven Springs Vineyard, so no doubt has some passing acquaintance with this vineyard. I've now tried two wines from the Anden part of the vineyard (2001 St. Innocent the other), and my impression is that Anden yeilds some pretty bright and shiny fruit compared to the darker and more tannic Seven Springs. Take your pick!

One thing's for sure, P.G. sure knows how to make a toothsome wine. This bottle, young as it is, opened with a brilliant cherry nose and palate with a healthy zing of acidity that had me smiling in seconds. My glass was filled with lush aromatics of cherry and a light hint of spice. The acidity was striking - not overdone but above the norm for 2002's I've tasted to date. I didn't catch a lot of layers of flavor - those may emerge as the wine ages a bit - but the primary character is very appealing.

At this time this is the most brilliant of the PGC 2002's I've tasted to date (others being Eason and Balcombe, with brief barrel tastes of Goldschimdt, Balcombe 1B, Four Winds and Reserve). I'll be interested to see if it picks up more layers as it goes.
