Our next stop was Erath Vineyards. I've had a couple of their wines in the past and thought they were well-made. The wines they poured this day were mostly disappointing. That said, I am aware that the amount of time the bottles were opened can have a huge impact on their taste. That's why a concerned and capable tasting room staff is essential. The wines:

2002 Pinot Gris Nose of pear and citurs. Thin. 84

1999 Vintage Select Chardonnay Smells like rubbing alcohol. Some fruit, but a little sharp. 85

2000 Chardonnay, Brunker Hill Vineyard Medicinal nose. Harsh. 80

2001 Pinot Noir Light nose of oak. Sharp. 82

1999 Pinot Noir Reserve Nose closed. Sharp. 83

1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Light nose of oak. 84

2001 Dolcetto Very weak nose. Smells like a forest. Blah. 80

1998 Gewurttraminer Late Harvest 16% residual sugar. Sherry nose, possibly opened for a long time. Fruity. 87

1999 Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest 25.2% residual sugar. Nose of honey, nuts, and vanilla. Well-balanced. 89
