This was from a case I bought during my first year of buying PG's wines in quantity, and with each bottle I regret buying the smallish quantities I did. I have the 2001 Balcombe, Balcombe 1B, Shea Block 7, and Eason, and would love to have more of each. Fortunately, 2002 is just around the corner.

This wine is not the 1B, which is a stunningly aromatic and deep wine, but it's highly noseworthy and presents a lingering palate that craves continued consumption. The nose - something between blackberry and strawberry, some hints of cinnamon and herbs, the barest waft of chocolate. Medium-full in body, well endowed with darker berried fruit and more of that spice mix, and a nice light finish that somehow stays around. No bruiser, but offering continual pleasure through each taste, this wine is a real pleasure to drink.

Thanks for the notes - I've gone through a couple of Patty Green's '00s. Loved the Estate and still have a bottle of the Eason - I felt the Temperance Hill bottle was nothing special, however.

Although I know other local winemakers better, I seem to be buying more PGC wine than anyone else's lately. Consistently full-bodied, aromatic, and tasty wines do me in. The 2001 Eason is a stunner - smoky and sultry.
