I recently picked up some Oregon Pinots including this new release from Cristom. I'll be opening a few to see if future purchases are in order.

This wine was a very deep, clear ruby color. It was spicy on the nose with a bit of raspberry. In the middle it picked up raspberry and some black cherry along with a load of spice. On the finish there was some vanilla along with some sort of green herbal quality that I couldn't identify. It was not unpleasant but there was a bit of bitterness on the finish which detracted from the overall.

Interestingly Parker did not rate this wine because he said it showed too poorly. They must have had a bad lot because it is a very nice wine which improved by the next morning. This may be a hint that some bottle time will help knit this one together.

A nice but not exceptional wine at a fairly high price point. Hopefully it will improve over time as it is a youngster. A maybe for additional purchases.

WT,

I picked up a case of the '99 about a year ago, opened one and was pleased with it, although it certainly needs more time before opening another. WA gave this a 94, and I'd say it was more on potential than current drinking. It may well develop to that level, but I found it a bit closed in at present. As for the 2000, I haven't had any yet.

I think this one has potential. I'm going to hang on to the rest for another year or two to let it knit together. Time will tell..
