| No sweet, flabby Pinot bomb here - quite a nice wine that paired well with food.
- 2004 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côté Est - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (2/4/2007)
Trending to 91 points; Clear dark garnet in color with a nose of earth, minerals, balsam and dark fruit. Flavors included earth, baking spices, balsam (like Christmas tree bark). It was well-balanced although definitely on the young side. The finish included an interesting smoky note. Some short term aging should help it knit together. [~$40; Decanted for 30 minutes and needed it] (90 pts.)

| | Word from the winery is that they are pretty much out of the three 2004 wines. Congrats to Le Cadeau for that. Of course there may be some at retail. | | | |

| Tex,
Thanks for the nice notes; glad you enjoyed the Cote Est.
As I've noted in other places; I think this cuvee is a "baby". I poured a dozen bottles at an event the other night, and the ones that had been open for some time were better. Then, I brought home a bottle and drank it for a number of days. It was great on day-3, and still balanced and strong after being open for a week (actually 8-days).
I think another year or two will allow it to morph into quite a nice wine.
Reviews have been all over the map on the three cuvees: WS favored Diversite; Michael Franz favored Rocheux; and WE and PinotFile (just this week) have given nice words to Cote Est. I guess that's pinot!
Cheers, Tom | | | |

| | Had a conversation with Tom Mortimer (Le Cadeau) regarding his wines (and yes they are pretty much sold out at the winery). Tom knows we love our cabs - so he recommended the '04 Cote Est to us as a style he thought we would enjoy. What a wonderful wine! Winetex you are right on target - it's a youngster and we did not decant it properly. Mid-way through dinner it really started to open up and sing. Pretty color and wonderful representation of Oregon Pinot - a very balanced wine with nice berry and mineral notes. A definite buy again for us. Wine Library has the '04 Cote Est in stock if you're looking to purchase more. | | Karen www.jeanedwardscellars.com "You should only make wines you love to drink." | |

| | Decanted for 3 hours and I suspect we may have missed the optimal drinking point. Nice, when we got to it, but not revelatory. The nose on this was big, particularly on opening, and had a somewhat Syrah-ish character to the fruit. Tannins were clear and evident. When we got to the wine, there was not nearly as much body or finish as I was expecting. I will hold my other bottle (as well as the '04 Rocheux) and be more careful with decanting times in the future. | | | |

| 2004 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côté Est - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (4/28/2007) WIML90,NOWA,WS86
Tasted April 28, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Slightly dusty nose with some aromas of charred wood, pepper and a mix of dark fruits. Flavors of sweet red berries, cherries and currants. Medium acidity, tannins and body. I think I would hold this 6 months to another year to see how if fleshes out in bottle. (90 pts.) | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |
