2004 Vidon Vineyard Pinot Noir. Willamette Valley, Oregon. 14.5% alcohol. $35. 200 cases made.
Medium ruby red with moderately thick legs showing slight traces of color. An already accessible, rather clean nose of cherry, light oak, and buttery leather. Smooth tannin coupled with fine acidity. Fruit does not club you over the head but there is more than enough to keep one’s interest. Very drinkable. Vidon’s first release came from the 2003 vintage. Don and Vicki Hagge farm 5.25 acres of Pinot planted with a blend of 3 Dijon clones (Pommard, 777, and 115). The 2004 was aged in French oak for 15 months and was put into glass without fining or filtration. Drink now to 2011. 87 points.

Hey JW, I don't mean this as a criticism, but an honest question. How do you decide which TNs get posted here on VC and which are only available in the Oeno-file? I ask because I, like I'm sure many others here, would love to see more notes like this show up on VC where there can be discussion about the wine.

Thanks for the question Eric - I don't consider it a criticism at all. I've been writing Oeno-File since 2002 and now in 2006 I've decided to make some changes (based on a lot of input from people whose opinions I value). Content wise going forward Oeno-File will focus solely on California wines. As such, notes from wines from outside of California will be posted on Vinocellar. Thanks to Randy Wigginton (as an aside the power of the internet is really amazing since without I would never have come into contact with someone of Randy's considerable stature in the industry) the biggest change is that with the next issue Oeno-File.com will go live with searchable access and other upgrades.

Yes, that is good news. Though please don't stop reviewing the non-Cali wines. Thanks for these notes.

Thanks very much. Notes take a long time for me but since over half my cellar contains non California wines I'll still be posting non-California notes.

Nice note JW1. I had a similar impression when I tasted this a while back:

Prior 04 Vidon PN note

Looking forward to the next Oeno-File...

I noticed you just posted a lot of California tasting notes. Have you made directional change?
