| Medium nose of spicy cherries, dark raspberry and earth. Medium minus - to- medium body, medium intensity and medium-to-medium plus acidity. Oak, baking spices, red fruits and earth. I don't get Oregon pinot. I ave yet to have one I care for. I guess I need to go hang out with DukeReilly and Pete Marsh. 85pts. | | |

| Jason, I haven't had the '02 Domaine Serene. I've had others. To some extent, I think DS is just a tad overrated, but they also really do blossom with 5-6 years of age. There are plenty of threads my Marc San Soucie on this Board re: his favorite Orgeon producers. Try some others he recommends. By and large, you're going to find less overt fruit, a more restrained profle, a bit more earth. Because of that, you may be right, maybe you just don't care for them. Penner Ash, by the way makes a fairly Californian style of Oregon pinot, and the Soter is not far behind. The most recent three vintages of Patricia Green are fruit forward, though many of hers have a fair amount of earthy funk (which I love, many hate) too. Siduri's Muirfield is another nice crossover, as is Adam Lee's Siduri Willamette. Sineann's are fairly big, but they are structured-you may or may not like Sineann. And lastly, don't ignore vintage. Vintages will always be more variable in Oregon than in Cali. The '03 Oregons are generally quite ripe and forward. Just a lot of generalizations that might help. Last thing-cab/zin drinkers often have a hard time likeing pinot at all, at first. Then comes a stage of likeing the big fruit forward Calfs, than the more medium bodied ones, and then a gravitation towards New Zealand/Oregon, and then the great mother-ship of amazing wines surrounded by a sea of clunkers and overpriced pretenders, Burgundy. | | | |

| Jason has a pretty diverse palate. He gets Burgundyvery well.
Actually, I've had this wine and think it is pretty good stuff. I would agree that I think this wine will get better with age due to its solid acidity.

| I just put up a quick impression of this wine in the "What are you drinking this month?" thread, and it's quite different from Jason's. I thought this was an outstanding Pinot, rich dense fruit, good acidity, still young. I think it's 92-3 pts.
Different strokes, different bottles...

| Thanks jb.
After hearing from all of you it makes me wonder if the bottle was not optimum. There were no overt faults to it. My note doesn't seem quite right especially in light of jb liking it since we seem to enjoy the same styles of wines.

| The '98 Evanstad was my wife's first "aha" Pinot that got her hooked forever. An ongoing vertical of Domaine Serene Evanstad Reserve will always have a place in our cellar for that very reason.
We've yet to try the '02 though....thanks for the notes.
