1999 Ken Wright Wahle Vineyard Pinot noir

Dark ruby. Stinky earthy nose with notes of old wood. Really would have picked this as a burg based on the nose.
Nose promises much more than the palate delivers. In fact, the palate does not deliver.
I can say, the tannins and acidity were perfectly resolved. Unfortunately, the fruit was in absentia, as in no where to be found.
I like the Belle Pente version of this vineyard much better. I do like this vineyard.
This bottle was less than I expected.

Dain, I tasted the 2002 Ken Wright's from barrel in July, 2003. The Wahle was clearly the worst one. The others were all excellent.

I would second Board-O's comment, at least to the extent that this is not Ken's best vineyard IMO. I like Carter, McCrone, and Abbey Ridge, although he no longer makes wine from Abbey Ridge.

I've had several conversations with others on the WS Board about how Ken's wines tend to fade a little sooner than some of the others. 1999 may be pushing it. That said, I still have several bottles of his 1999s.

I did like the 1998 Ken Wright Wahle.
Much better than the previous 3 bottles of the 1999 version I have tasted.
Could be this is his weakest vineyard.
I am more fond of Guadalupe, Carter and Shea from Ken Wright.
I do have some Canary Hill and Abbey Ridge from 1999 but I have not opened one yet.

FWIW,

Dain
