I got this bottle from Elk Cove accountant at a seminar we both attended. He told me that everyone came up short on Pinot Gris in 2004 - same problems as with Pinot Noir. They "only" produced 10,800 cases of this.

Clear pale green/yellow, with just a touch of pink. Melons and pears in the nose. Melons and grapefruit on the palate. The wine is very round mouthfeel - rich and luxurious. I suspect some residual sugar given the grapes were picked at 24.5 brix and the wine is advertised at 13% alcohol. I would have preferred just a little more acidity or less sugar. 88 points.

I haven't had the 2004, but I find that Elk Cove consistently produces one of the very best PGs from this country.

I've been a fan of the Elk Cove Pinot Gris as well. I think that this vintage is different than past efforts - in some ways better, but in other ways not as much to my liking.

I tasted this yesterday and agree with you completely. Nice wine but it would be better if it were a tad crisper and had less glycerin.
