This was my first time to try the latest vintage of this. I had been drinking through the 2000 because I thought that it was probably the finest new world Pinot Gris I'd ever had (never published a TN but a 90-92 point wine). Unfortunately the 2001 isn't as good.

Nice pale gold color

Very nice aromas of melon and green apple, that continue on the palate with just a hint of citrus. Acid balance was OK and the finish was moderate. While a nice wine, I don't see the flavor complexity or the intensity that the 2000 had. 85 points

I paid $9/bottle for a case of this.

No, not bad at all, and many winemakers up here have more Pinot Gris than they can sell, so I expect it to stay relatively cheap.

I've enjoyed the '00 Elk Cove as well... it's too bad that the '01 is not as good.

This was my first Elk Cove Pinot Gris. Wish I had the opportunity to try the 2000. Sounds like a winner. Anyway, I enjoyed the 2001 to the tune of 86 pts:

Melon, stonefruit and a touch of floral on the nose. Soft, slightly sweet with peaches, apricots, and lychee. I wished for a bit more acidity but this is still a excellent food wine and great QPR for ~ $15. 86 pts.
