| Here's a bargain that I doubt will make it past the Oregon borders. Matt Kinne of McKinlay's vineyard is about a half a mile from the Black Hole Vineyard on Parrett Mountain. He's more of a farmer than a winemaker. His wines range from sublime to disappointing. This is his bottom level wine, and if this is any indication the "Special Selection" will be fabulous.
Light, clear garnet color. The wine has a muted nose of raspberry and black cherry. On the palate the wine starts strong, with raspberry, cherry, some forest floor and a little oak. The wine then grows through the mid-palate with a strong streak of acid and a little white pepper to a very long, racy finish. While enjoyable now, this will age. I expect a little more complexity and richness from the big boys, but this was $12 by the bottle, and by the case it will cost less than $10. A very nice cellar defender! 88+ points. | | Heater Allen Brewing

Where did you buy that ?? $12.00 sounds like excellent QPR. I'd like to try one. ( I also live in the Portland area) Cheers, Paul

| I bought it at Wild Oats. I've seen Matt's wine at Fred Meyer and Whole Foods as well at times. | | Heater Allen Brewing

| Cellar defending pinot from Oregon. Sounds like a oxymoron.
Of course, the chances it will travel here to VA are slim and none.

| Most of the real cellar defenders are made in such small quanities that they don't go very far. Many of the smaller wineries are self-distributing for the state of Oregon so they make more money if they sell it locally. As far as making it to Virginia, not likely. | | Heater Allen Brewing

| BHVineyard and I paid a visit to Matt but we arrived as he was leaving, so I never got to try one of his wines. His place is really out in the middle of nowhere. BHVineyard calls him an artist. | | | |
