| 1979 Knudsen Erath, Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir T.N.
This wine is remarkably preserved. Color is ruby with distinct orange bricking.. On the nose there is aromatic mushroom, wet earth and dried black fruits. On the palate there is an amazing amount of ripe fruit still hanging on. Sweet ripeness. Silky smooth mouth feel. Beautiful fruit laden finish with a touch of white pepper. 95pts.
I’ve got to thank James Maresh for pulling the cork on this one. Beautiful wine in pristine condition.

| | paulie, it's nice to see someone post who appreciates what PN (or any varietal) can be with proper aging. The best PNs I've had have not been young, though CA is producing a lot of fine PN that can be enjoyed in their youth. The 1934 Roman-Conti, 1959 La Tache,m and 1959 Chambertin from Armand Rousseau have been other-worldly when they reached maturity. | | | |

| | Right you are Board-o. However they are quite different than young pinots and some folks really like the flavors in a young pinot. That being said ask Davidn about the 1985 DRC Romanee St. Vivant we had. | | | |

| | How was it skwid? (I'll ask you.) I'd really like your opinion of its drinking window, since I have a bottle of the '85 DRC Grands Echezaux. | | | |

| | Board-o, the 1985 DRC Romanee St. Vivant was the best Red Burgundy I've ever had. IMHO you can definitely drink this now as I don't think it will get any better (but it is fantastic now). I think you can probably let the GE go for a few more years but then I'd start to look at drinking it. The wine is currently 19 years old which is getting up there for most wines (although DRC isn't "most wine"). Btw, it was my wine of the month for Feb. | | | |

| | Glad to hear it. I had stood up the bottle but somebody on the WS site suggest it needed more time, so I put it back in the cellar. I'll have it by next year. | | | |
